Shilen Patel is a serial entrepreneur and lifetime Tampa Bay resident. In Nov 2011, Shilen founded the HealthAxis Group, a family of healthcare software and services companies established to evolve the healthcare system at all levels through the use of interoperable data and technology. With offices in Tampa, Texas, and California, its businesses include an enterprise payer technology platform, physician Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, Automated Patient Communications, Business
Process Outsourcing, online Patient Health Records (PHR), IT Consulting & Services, and solutions for Health Information Exchange (HIE) as well as the rapidly emerging Accountable Care Organization (ACO) market.
Mr. Patel spent 8 years starting in 2002 as a top executive and part owner at Visionary HealthWare, growing the company from $1 million to over $30 million and garnering Visionary recognition by Healthcare Informatics as one of America’s 100 largest Healthcare IT companies and by the Tampa Bay Business Journal as one of Tampa Bay’s 5 fastest growing companies. Visionary HealthWare provided software and services to thousands of physicians and medical practices, laboratories, DME Providers, and clinics in all 50 states. He successfully exited with a sale in September 2010 to CompuGroup, a publicly traded German firm that is a European leader in Healthcare IT.
Shilen is the Founder/Owner of Cover2 Ventures, a business incubator and management company established to rapidly launch proprietary ventures and support the success of its early stage investments. Mr. Patel is a founding Director of Central Bank, a community bank in Wesley Chapel, FL. At the time of its founding, he was Florida’s youngest-ever bank director. He is also an active real estate investor.
In January 2013, Shilen was honored with MBA degrees from both the Columbia University Graduate School of Business and London Business School. In 2002, Shilen received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Babson College with concentrations in Entrepreneurship and Management.
Shilen is also working to remain active in the community and in charitable pursuits. He is an inaugural Charter Member of the Tampa Bay chapter of TiE, an international organization promoting entrepreneurship through mentoring, networking, and education. He is a co-founder of Leaders’ Friday Luncheon, a networking group established to connect the area’s most dynamic community and business leaders. In 2009, he raised thousands for Heartbeat International by competing in the charity’s annual Dancing with the Stars Tampa Bay event. His parents, Dr Kiran C Patel and Dr Pallavi K Patel, are two of Tampa Bay’s most prominent businesspeople and philanthropists. Shilen and his wife Parita have been married since December 2008 and welcomed a daughter, Mila, to the world in September 2012.
